Rest in Peace, Steve

Steve Douglas

Stephen L. Douglas, BS ’74, MS ’79, president and CEO of the WVU Alumni Association, died May 19, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer. During his 34-year career at the Alumni Association, the association experienced unprecedented growth, including the building of the new Erickson Alumni Center and an increase in investments and assets of 500 percent. President E. Gordon Gee referred to Douglas as the head cheerleader of the Alumni Association. In expressing his sadness at the passing of Douglas this spring, Gee said, “I will miss his enthusiasm, humor and ability to connect the Mountaineer family.” Douglas received the Most Loyal Mountaineer Spirit Award last year in commemoration of his service to WVU, the Alumni Association and alumni across the globe. He was also an Outstanding Alumnus in the CPASS Hall of Fame and member of Mountain honorary. His family has requested that donations in his honor be made to the Stephen L. Douglas Scholarship Fund.
